Mark “Ranger” Jones
President
Mark “Ranger” Jones describes his experience in the military as “living the dream.” One look at his service record will tell you why: he began as cook, became an Airborne Ranger, went on to become the Senior Aide to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff—and he even jumped with former President George H. W. Bush along the way.
Ranger grew up in a military family and turned initially to the Army’s Airborne Rangers to secure medical benefits for his wife and two children. His talent, ability, and sheer dedication to his unit quickly earned him the nickname “Ranger” among his comrades. It was his sense of mission that led to his reputation as a go-to guy in the Rangers. To this day, Ranger Jones remains the only Airborne and High Altitude, Low Opening (HALO) jump-qualified cook in U.S. Army history.
In addition to serving in Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and the Haitian Campaign, Ranger went on to become the Senior Aide to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Hugh Shelton. In this position, he provided strategic direction for the Armed Forces, served as the principal military advisor to the National Security Council (NSC), prepared strategic plans for the Armed Forces, directed preparations of contingency plans, advised on programs, requirements, and budgeting, as well as developed joint training, doctrine, and education. His U.S. Army career is characterized further by more than 4,000 airborne jumps.
Following his retirement from the military, Ranger established The Ranger Group, LLC where he continues to demonstrate his commitment to our military.
